The Astrologer’s Diary: 20-26 August 2018

Australian politics on Mars Retrograde and Mercury Retrogade Shadow. What a mess.  Way back in April 2018, you read this prediction that the Liberal Party spill was unfolding then. Turns out it was. Who just confirmed that? The other possible candidate for Prime Minister, Julie Bishop. The Sydney Morning Herald reported on August 21st that Julie Bishop accused Peter Dutton of campaigning for the job since April. You can read the original prediction filed on April 5th here.  Did you know that Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and hopeful Prime Minister Peter Dutton are all Scorpios? With my hand on my heart, I had no idea what was going to happen in Canberra this week when I filed this weekly prediction for Scorpio to our designer Jodi!

"Your group, social media circle, club, team, association, band or community is clearly political. In fact, it’s downright emotional as there are questions here about power and control, and how best to share it. The weekend into early next week will lay it all on the line for you, but September is your sign-off time for the new arrangement with all of you."

And here's the prediction for Taurus this week. New Prime Minister Scott Morrison was born one day apart from his rival for Prime Minister at the next election, Bill Shorten.

"You are going to feel the Neptune in Pisces side of this cycle, which is very much about making new friends, getting to know old friends better – and getting ‘in the swim’ with a particular society, community, band, political party, charity and so on. If ever a situation needed nets, warning flags, rules, a light house and anchor though – this is it. You could so easily end up over your head, Taurus."

Aries: 20-26 August 2018

Secrets? Shadowy matters? Great mysteries? Just be gently aware of previous experience from 2011-2017, Aries and rather than add to this, try and contain and control what is already there. We are entering Virgo season and that means a searchlight turned on all that has been so confused and confusing, to date – but also so much below the surface for you. Rather than let the situation become even murkier now might be the time to think about some clarification, into September. The real story is actually your lifestyle, body and workload. This Virgo weather is really about dealing with you are being shown about yourself and your duties to others. That includes the dog as well as everything else. Seldom has the link between your mind and your body been so close, and if you have housemaid’s knee over the next three weeks, it may well be because you don’t actually want to be a housemaid any more. Body issues which prevent you from working at a particular role or task are a dead giveaway, are they not? More positively, you will be in touch with experts, professionals and gifted amateurs in the food, drugs, drink, fitness, surgical, medical and healing department shortly. The Full Moon on Sunday 26th August is your big pointer to that.

Taurus

Taurus: 20-26 August 2018

The next three weeks will focus your mind wonderfully on a friendship, within a wider circle or group, which has no boundaries. This may be because of your friend’s personality – s/he may be the kind of person who is all over the place, everywhere, all the time. Perhaps it is the porous nature of the club, Twitter account, team or other community. It’s leaky and this can make life feel quite random and rather hard to control. In actual fact, this is like building walls or rebuilding them – and nothing more complex than that. You’ve been in similar situations before, but it takes late August to September to wake you up. It is also the time of year to think about your son, daughter, grandchildren, godchildren, nieces and nephews, pregnancy, stepchildren and any relationship which brings that closer. Equally it is time to think about leading, mentoring and guiding a younger generation, perhaps through paid or unpaid efforts with children – maybe young adults, depending on your age. There needs to be a compromise by 6th September. It may be child custody, for example, or some other kind of power sharing agreement, or new arrangement which redistributes the controls. Ceres is in Virgo along with the Sun and you don’t see that very often! Power must be divided anew.

gemini

Gemini: 20-26 August 2018

Your ruler Mercury is steadily moving towards Virgo, the sign which rules your tenant, your house, your property investment, your landlady and the rest. Naturally the family or household is paramount too and you may also be profoundly involved with matters which affect your town or country. A lot of Gemini people are born with factors in Cancer in their personal birth charts, and if this is you, there is more to August and September than meets the eye. You will see why from November when the past (from around 19 years ago) comes back to meet you, in the present! Let’s stay with the immediate present, though, and look at the week ahead, which is bound to set you on course for fresh choices about moving, renovating, community activism with the council, larger questions about your nationality or citizenship – and of course, the family. The Full Moon is unlikely to be a walk in the park, but that’s fine. You need to sort things out, in descending order of importance, so that you can head for a brand-new start in September. Family politics would not be unusual. The other key thing about this new cycle? Clarity in your career, unpaid work or university degree. Contain and control what/who is all over the place, everywhere, all the time. Boundaries!

cancer

Cancer: 20-26 August 2018

You are ruled by the Moon, as you know, so the Moon’s cycles are far more important for you, than other people. On Sunday, the Moon in Pisces opposes the Sun in Virgo, so this is a time of reckoning for your life on the internet, travel agenda, education, academic priorities, publishing plans and particularly your relationship with people whose culture is foreign to you – likely, along with their country of origin. The Moon is opposite the Sun, so you will be dealing with polar opposites too. This may be an inner conflict you have, or you may be in the red corner, while somebody else is in the blue corner. Normally this would be just a passing thing, but as you also have Ceres in Virgo you clearly need to share the controls with your project, internet life, public speaking plans, book, multimedia involvement and so on. This will take time which is perfectly fine. In fact, if you’re into accurate timing, modern astrology is your friend. All you really need to know is that September sees a relaunch of your plans to travel, or travel in the mind. Near Sunday 9th September you take off, in every sense of the word. This is three days after Mercury changes signs so there will be a ton of paperwork or phone calls. Ceres will also have departed by this stage, so the second week of September brings a feeling of ‘job done, power shared, controls redistributed’ and – compass re-set. It will help you a lot if you can put the boundaries back in with particular people or organisations.

leo

Leo: 20-26 August 2018

It's that time of year again when your finances, house, business, charity, apartment or possessions must come first. You may as well roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. Your ruler the Sun is opposite the Moon on Sunday and this tug-of-war may be reflected in mixed feelings about your bank, the tax man or your salary (for example). There will be a new beginning, and likely a new budget from 9th September when the Sun again lines up with the Moon and that month as a whole should be set aside for meetings, paperwork and organisation. The issue for you is boundaries. You are involved in quite confused and confusing financial, property, charity or business arrangements with partners, family members or others where the lines are blurred. You may as well get your head down now, Leo, and start carefully and systematically figuring out what needs to be done, when and how.

virgo

Virgo: 20-26 August 2018

The Sun enters Virgo on Thursday 23rd August and matters of image, profile, name, reputation and appearances now come to the fore. It has been 12 months since you were in this cycle with Social Me, Me, Me, Me, Media and you’ll notice it most at the Full Moon on Sunday 26th August. Mixed feelings, inner conflict or situations where you are clearly poles apart from others, are all typical. From this, comes a determination to sort out who or what is in control of the way you appear to the world at large. Quite rightly, this will take you a good couple of weeks to sort out, but once your ruler Mercury changes signs on 6th September, the hard work has mostly been done and you can relaunch yourself, or at least relaunch your approach towards matters of image. The more important issue, by a country mile, is the confused and confusing relationship you have with your former, current or potential partner. This weekend, into next week, is likely to make it far more obvious to you than is usually the case. As we have a chain of Virgo-Pisces oppositions into September, it would appear that the time has come to try and find a way to reinstate boundaries, or actually put them in for the first time. Sometimes oppositions in Pisces mean the issue is an enemy, foe or rival instead of a partner. If this is ringing bells on Sunday, make sure that things are watertight with you and he/she/they as you really don’t want anyone getting into your psychic space, over your internet walls or anywhere near your life, right?

libra

Libra: 20-26 August 2018

Over the next three weeks you will be given your best chance in 12 months to sort out your daily routine, workload and lifestyle. There is a recurring theme here, as ever since Neptune changed signs in 2011, you have frequently been all at sea with the most basic aspects of breakfast, housework, employers, staff, colleagues, clients, lunch, the gym, the swimming pool, the doctor, dinner, yoga, sleep…sleep…sleep. Neptune has a reputation in astrology for showing you what’s (not) what. It can be rather confusing to deal with over a long period as it’s so easy to become immersed in alternative facts, alternative realities, alternative lifestyle – that you don’t even realise how far out you have drifted or how deeply you are in, up to your neck. This is really only an issue when you have a ton of oppositions from transiting Virgo factors in your chart and that just happens to be now. So, allow three weeks to sort this out. There is nothing that can’t be done if you roll up your sleeves and determine to make it all work, no matter if this is your job, your unpaid work or your university degree. Your physical condition and state, down to your body type (blood group, frame, the lot) can’t really be separated from your working day and now is the time to sort it out, step by step. You’ve done this before and you can do it again. Neptune is associated with anaesthetic and you may want to take a long, shrewd look at what you use to make yourself Comfortably Numb.

scorpio

Scorpio: 20-26 August 2018

Rethinking how things are with your son, daughter, godchild, stepchild, grandchild, niece or nephew may be the start. By the second week of September you will be on a roll, as you realise you have actually been here before, and unless there is a concerted attempt to control boundaries, they just disappear. Whenever that has happened in the past – even as far back as 2012 or 2013 – life has become confusing, at best, and chaotic, at the extreme. This Full Moon now, in this area of your chart, is very much about seeing what needs to be done, why and when. From there will come progress, with some really important discussions, agreements or paperwork from 6th September onwards. Scorpio, the issue for you may be a pregnancy, adoption or a sexual relationship which may ultimately offer you quite a different involvement with the world of children or young people. Some of you may also have crucial paid or unpaid work which revolves around a younger generation. In all cases, you have to see why things have drifted, or slipped out of your hands and try to pull it all together again. What else is going on now? Well, your group, social media circle, club, team, association, band or community is clearly political. In fact, it’s downright emotional as there are questions here about power and control, and how best to share it. The weekend into early next week will lay it all on the line for you, but September is your sign-off time for the new arrangement with all of you.

sagittarius

Sagittarius: 20-26 August 2018

You can live with a floating situation involving a family member, flatmate, your house, apartment, home town or homeland. In fact, Sagittarius, you have drifted with the tides all year, adapting to the flow. You have had had issues with boundaries (literally the back fence, or council planning). A relative may have no sense of boundaries, or a flatmate or live-in partner may have been crossing the line constantly. At a certain point, your horoscope lines up in a particular way – and you have to notice what has been going on. More than that, you have to do something about it. This is really what the next 3-4 weeks will be about. Unless you nip something in the bud, it’s not going to go away of its own accord. This may be a question about citizenship or nationality for some Sagittarians – you too? In other cases, it’s really about the lack of structure within the family or shared household, or between you as a couple living together. The Full Moon will bring it all to a head close to Sunday. This is also the time to look at the way your career, unpaid work or university degree functions, in terms of life at home, or your attachment to a particular place.

capricorn

Capricorn: 20-26 August 2018

We now have an important new cycle beginning, across the Virgo-Pisces axis of your horoscope, which rules your use of the worldwide web, multimedia, publishing, education and all forms of communication. The Full Moon on Sunday is likely to bring in complex questions about foreign people and places, too, for many people born under your sign. If that is the case for you, take your time to figure out the pros and cons, but know that there will be a fresh start with it all around Sunday 9th September. (This is far more likely if your personal birth chart reveals factors in Sagittarius). Capricorn, whatever your birth chart looks like, no matter if foreign people and places are hovering on the to-do list or not, you still need to look at how you get your message across. This may be about your iPhone, blog, social media use, Skype – or even fundamental issues like speech, hearing, literacy. You have been living with Neptune in your Third House of communication since 2011 and it’s easy to drift into a situation where you can all too easily get in over your head or be carried too far from where you need to be. Keep it real. Get real. Those are classic advice statements on any Neptune transit, and as you are about to hit a series of complex patterns by mid-September, the time to start reining things in is now. Look at social media in particular, which is notorious for its lack of boundaries.

aquarius

Aquarius: 20-26 August 2018

You have been in a bubble with your money, house, flat, possessions, charity and/or business for quite a long time. The bubble changes shape every so often, but it is essentially the same thing – seven years of floating in a totally different space to everyone else! There is nothing ordinary, regular, mundane or ‘real’ about your particular version of financial reality. To return to the bubble analogy, sometimes it bursts, or comes very close to bursting. Sometimes it just seems like a bubble of trouble. You need to address this, between now and September, as we have a sequence of lunar cycles and planetary patterns, right across the Virgo-Pisces axis of your horoscope, which is where you add up the dollars, pounds or euros and figure things out. This goes way beyond the actual price tags, or amounts. It goes deeply into your own value system. What you will and will not sell your soul for. Who or what you consider to be priceless.

pisces

Pisces: 20-26 August 2018

The Sun enters Virgo, your opposite sign, on Thursday 23rd August, ushering in a period of scrutiny for your marriage, work partnership or sexual relationship. This is the most important period in 12 months for reshaping the situation with your former or potential partner, too. Occasionally there may be issues about baggage, at this time of year (your partner’s old partner). Sometimes a rival springs up, so there is a love triangle (a Bizarre Love Triangle if you are a New Order fan). In the main, Pisces, it depends on what you have been creating with this man or woman since the last cycle, in September 2017. You need to remix the chemistry at the Full Moon on Sunday 23rd September. The Sun represents father, in astrology, and the Moon represents mother. On a Full Moon they are opposite each other, which is symbolic of the difference between men and women, but perhaps – if your personal birth chart agrees, and you have factors in Cancer – a larger hint about what needs to be sorted out from November. Pisces, whatever your birth horoscope looks like, this week is really about the need to deal with what/who does not add up for you, emotionally. You can then make a fresh start on 9th September. There is a lot of sifting, sorting, chopping and changing with this person to be done.

  1. HI Jessica
As a Capricorn your forecast really resonates – I’ve been having throat issues for a few weeks. This week my lips swelled up for a day! And the doggie card – love my pooch so much! We both have flair ups with immune issues. He has three factors in Virgo too – I know!
I have Pluto 3 Virgo can you give any advice on how this may play out?
    Many thanks x

    • It’s strange but true, that Third House/communication cycles can show up as throat issues. Pluto in Virgo women find that when they use their self-control and self-discipline to force themselves into regular exercise and food choices which don’t trigger their (common) intolerances – they become Mistress of the Universe. They are more cheerful, more energetic, more motivated and like themselves more. The flipside is that if Pluto in Virgo women do not use self-control and allow themselves to be controlled by their contemporaries (the Pluto in Virgo people who make a fortune from food supply and drink supply – and food/drink advice) – they can be utterly dominated. A really good example of this is Pluto in Virgo people who are told to eat breakfast cereal, which has sugar, and often wheat and gluten – which can trigger intolerance. The message with Pluto in Virgo is every (body) is unique and you must find your own way and do your own thing. But you do need to control it and that’s the key.

  2. Many thanks Jessica.

Interestingly enough, I’d just got my yoga books / DVDs out to find some 5th chakra kriyas to help. I find yoga completely empowering – thanks for the reminder. xx

  3. Hi Jessica,

Just as feedback and following on from above re throat issues and the Lenormand card being a dog. Approx 6-8 weeks ago I was at the vets with my dog (eye issue thought to be auto immune and following on from other auto immune major problems brought on by a vaccine) I had a coughing attack so severe I felt my throat close up on me – I’ve never been asthmatic so it was out of the blue and quite scary. I have to ask “where do I think my voice is not being heard?”. Interesting. x

    • Very important question to ask. ‘Where do I think my voice is not being heard?’ And also – what or who prevents me from being heard and read? All Third House and also Throat Chakra issues.

  4. Hi Jessica,

On re reading this week’s Cap horoscope I’m seeing more connections – bang on! When I had the allergic flair up with my lips I also developed, overnight, a funny nodule on my thumb – hands joints have been aching for a month or so now. This is normally contained by supplements etc. I tried the Oracle and after two ‘I haven’t got a clue’ readings the third came up Uranus and 6th house. Ok now I get it. Yes, sugar in all its naughty forms has been sneaking back into my diet for the past year or so; when I’m craving wine gums (god help me) I know my gut microbiome is not working in my favour! Clear out of cupboards followed! If diet, and other non drug formats don’t improve the condition then, and only then, will I seek a doctor’s help.

    Anyway, really helpful weekly.
    Cheers x

    • I’m really glad you pulled Uranus and Sixth House in your Astrology Oracle reading. I bet the third time you really focussed and got the information you needed. Very good idea to ditch sugar. Have you seen that amazing documentary about sugar? An Australian man decided to overload on sugar to see what happened. It wasn’t great.

      • THanks for the ref Jessica – I’ll take a look.
Actually I should know better. About 4/5 years ago my husband was diagnosed borderline type two diabetic. After much research, completely mind boggling, I placed us both on low Gl diet and out went all cakes, biscuits, crisps, bread, pasta, rice and fruit juice; we never ate cereals anyway. In came quinoa (yum), mashed cauliflower replaced the potato part of a baked potato, made up own muesli (zero sugar) – you get the picture. So I’m really annoyed with myself that cakes, sweeties and bread ( sourdough is so yum) has made its way back. We even had our first pasta dish last week so we’re heading back to old ways. This is a timely wake up call.
Dr Michael Mosley’s work on fasting, and on the gut are a revelation- who knew our gut had its own brain!
        Cheers x

        • There you go. Astrology never stops surprising me, but it is actually your husband’s borderline diabetes which is behind this Virgo story. I’ll take a closer look at Dr. Mosley’s work, it sounds so interesting. Thank you!
